Don't Offer unless you're Ready to Put Out
Sometimes a simple—“Hey, buy a car from me” come-on can turn into a serious pain in the ass. Last week, that pain was me.
From: "Jerry Richardson" <jerry.richardson@jerryr.com> To: "Jim Hackett" <jimh@vordermanvw.com> Subject: Re: beetle Actually, that is the first car purchase I regret. I bought it on a rainy day and got it home to find the hood was pretty gnarly looking. Also, the manual is in French, with no english. Since then it has been pretty well behaved. I just wish I would have not succummed to the pressure to buy that day and waited to see it in the sun. I would have waited and gotten a different beetle. Every time I look at it, I die a little inside. Every time I mention the manual to anyone at Vorderman they act like I am radioactive and run away, never to be heard from again. So go ahead, begin screaming now, turn away and let me get back to my solitary sadness. Oh well. It has been a couple of weeks now, and, as you might expect, I never heard anything back. In light of this continued shunning, I share this anecdote with you now as a tip to a friend: Never, ever, ever buy a car from Vorderman VW in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
