Universal Sues MySpace

Is this the first shot of the copyright wars of 2007? Shawn Fanning has to grin a little every time he sees another one of these skirmishes starting.

UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP FILED a lawsuit against MySpace, alleging the social-networking site violates its copyrighted works. MySpace called the litigation “unnecessary and meritless.”

I’m too old to be very involved on MySpace, but I still have to root for them in a battle against UMG. Every win for the music industry is a loss for consumers and a loss for music lovers.
