Paper or Plastic Ballot?
It sounds like early voting has been eventful in Texas:
KFDM continues to get complaints from Jefferson County voters who say the electronic voting machines are not registering their votes correctly. Friday night, KFDM reported about people who had cast straight Democratic ticket ballots, but the touch-screen machines indicated they had voted a straight Republican ticket.
Subverting the most fundamental element of our democracy, the balloting process itself, is bold, even in light of the aggressive electoral tactics used by this administration in 2000 and 2004. A week from now, we’ll see the far right reach new heights, overthrowing the highly-favored Democrats for a surprising and invigorating victory. The deployment of rigged electronic voting machines will tip the scales to keep Congress fully in the grip of Republicans.
So if you’re Bush and the boys, why pull the trigger now? Why not just sit this one out, let a Democratic congress fester for two years and then retain the White House in 2008?
You’re assuming that we’ll be having an election in 2008.
I’m not so sure.
A paper or plastic ballot? On Tuesday, make mine paper.
