Reuters.com: President Bush’s choice to head the Environmental Protection Agency on Friday canceled a controversial program to test the effects of bug spray and other pesticides on infants after two Senate Democrats threatened to block his confirmation.

Bush goes to Rome for 3 days and the government spins this far out of control? Who is minding the store? Ari Fleisher is soooooo glad to be out of there right now. How do you propose to explain gassing infants to the assembled press corps? Even Ari couldn’t spin that into anything remotely sane. Maybe it was done for contrast—everything else they push for the next 3 years is going to sound pretty reasonable.
