RealNetworks rekindles iPod tech tussle
RealNetworks’ Harmony software, which allows songs to be played directly on an iPod or on a Microsoft-based device, is limited to the company’s pay-per-song store. Songs downloaded through the new Rhapsody portable subscription service are compatible only with a small number of Windows-based MP3 players.
As you would expect, from the consistently deceptive marketers at Real, their description of Rhapsody to Go stops at “allows songs to be played directly on an iPod…” Naturally, I liked the idea of that, so I signed up. Knowing what I know now, I immediately went in to cancel my account in the Rhapsody software, as you could in Version 2.0 - but, of course, since they are now owned by Real, you now have to call them to cancel your account. Does the FTC still exist? Real should be squashed like a bug - where is Eliot Spitzer? He would drop the hammer on them. Have fun in Rikers, you beahchez!
